Student Connections and Support Center

First Generation Graduation Celebration: This celebration honors the accomplishments of students who are the first members of their families to graduate from college. If your parent(s) and/or guardian(s) do not have a bachelor’s degree, you are considered to be first-generation regardless of whether a sibling graduated first. Students can recognize those who supported them during their collegiate journey by asking them to present their first-generation cord onstage. Free parking and refreshments will be provided. Cords are provided free of charge to graduates.

• Make sure your full name is either spelled out in the video file name, or say and spell it out loud before you begin your shout-out.
• State which degree or degrees you are about to graduate with.
• Record your message close enough to your phone or camera so the audience can hear you clearly.
• Record in an empty room that is free from outside noise or other distractions.
• If possible, record with your phone held horizontally instead of vertically.
• Keep your message appropriate for all audiences or we will not be able to include it.
