Faculty play a vital role in making sure students have access to the course materials they need to succeed. The Bronco Shop relies on instructors to submit their course material adoptions before each semester’s deadline.

Submitting adoptions on time helps us:

  • Ensure materials are available by the first day of class
  • Offer students the best possible prices
  • Provide accurate listings for all course sections

🔍 What is IA?

IA is a digital-first approach to course materials. It ensures that students get affordable access to textbooks and courseware directly through Canvas — often by the first day of class.

Key Features:

  • Students get instant access to digital course materials via Canvas.
  • No physical access codes are required (in most cases).
  • A discounted e-text course fee appears on their student account.
  • Students can opt out before the deadline and purchase materials elsewhere.
  • Many publishers offer low-cost, loose-leaf print versions.

🛠️ Setting Up IA in Canvas

📘 Most Publishers Now Use Canvas 1.3

The Course Materials button in Canvas is now the main access point for most IA materials — including ebooks and publisher courseware.

✅ Key Notes

  • Ebooks: Accessed via VitalSource through the Course Materials button. Students log in or create an account to view their bookshelf and can download books for offline access.
  • Pearson: Continue using the Course Materials button.
  • McGraw-Hill (Connect) and Wiley (WileyPLUS): Still require manual links from your publisher rep. Add these directly to your Canvas course.
  • Other Publishers: Some offer optional embedded tools — contact your publisher rep for setup guidance.

🚫 Common Student Issues & How to Fix Them

Students Say They Need an Access Code

Usually not necessary. IA removes the need for access codes. If prompted, they’re likely accessing the content outside Canvas. Double-check they’re using the correct Canvas link.

IA eBooks Aren’t Showing Up

This may be due to a mismatch with your Canvas LMS ID. It can happen with merged classes or sync issues.

⏳ What If I Don’t Submit My Course Materials on Time?

Submitting your adoptions by the deadline ensures students have access to their materials on time. Late submissions may delay availability or increase sourcing difficulties. Our top priority is student success.
